HELP! study abroad in high school.?

Toney Flaten: Hi Alex, It sounds like you're really motivated to study abroad, which is great! I think it's that motivation that makes high school study abroad students really stand out to colleges, which is something I think you should mention to your parents. Additionally, if you go abroad and become fluent in the language, not only could you possibly earn credits from your college that can go towards language requirement prerequisites, but you might also be eligible for scholarships as well. These are all things I think you should point out to your parents -- in addition to how many benefits intercultural education provides for both an academic environment as well as future careers. If your parents are worried about safety, many accredited high school study abroad programs will have an established relationship with the Department of State. I know that AFS-USA certainly does, for one. If a situation in any country becomes dangerous for American citizens, the Department ! of State is in charge of keeping American citizens abroad safe, and this (especially!) includes any high school students studying abroad. Best of luck with everything!...Show more
