Lyman Gauld: if not then what type of yogurt should i eat?
Charis Deguzman: Go to Whole Foods and tell your parents to deal with it.
Rona Ising: The dairy industry is a by-product of the meat industry, not using naimal product or by-products means you don't participate in the horrible suffering they go through.
Emile Okafor: Sushi does NOT mean raw fish. It's the roll itself, regardless of ingredients. When you go to a sushi restaurant, look over the menu, they will probably have some vegetarian selections. If you don't see anything you like, look over the menu picking out the vegetarian ingredients from each dish. Since any good sushi restaurant makes each roll on demand, they can easily make rolls out of your selection of ingredients....Show more
Sammy Tabatt: Hello. I am a vegatarian because I think it is wrong to eat what was once a living creature. Sorry if I offend thoughts who feel differently. I also think it is wrong to use animals as ! objects without feeling and suck the milk out of cows and cage chickens so they are forced to produce more eggs. Right now I am a vegatarian that only drinks soy milk (as oppose to dairy) and cage free eggs. My parents like to make fun of my for this and they gave me a pretty hard time when I told them I was a vegetarian. Recently I tried to be full on vegan but I did not go for more than a week. I am going to try again, it is going to be a new years resolution. I would like some advise on how to procede because it seemed like nearly everything contains dairy milk and or eggs. How should I tell my parents that I want to be vegan in a way I may get their support? What advice do you have for me (protein substitutes, what I should look for, ect..) ?Thank you...Show more
Tijuana Tatsak: Eat yogurt that is alive and not full of preservatives and high fructose corn syrup. Greek yogurt is really good, and not quite as sour as regular plain yogurt. I love me some plain Greek y! ogurt with toasted almonds and dried cranberries. Yum.
B! uddy Ardd: Read your labels for sugar amounts and for artificial flavorings etc.. Avoid Yoplait (even though it is a great tasting dessert) and eat Greek yogurt with fruit instead - much healthier.
Garrett Detone: Just a followup to "whatquestions" above - miso soup is NEVER vegetarian. It always contains bonito, which is dried fish flakes. ALWAYS. :(My favorite sushi is inarizushi, which is tofu skin wrapped around sushi rice. Yummy! All the other suggestions are good too. :)
Solomon Belback: Well, it does.Milk cows are bred over and over again so they're able to produce the milk and their male calfs are either killed at birth. Very few are raised and killed for meat because not all are good enough for meat. They only raise and slaughter the ones that will grow big because it's just good economy for the farmers. Also, battery hens (and even free range) are kept in horrid conditions. Those that are 'free range' don't get to run around on lush green grass, it! just means they have a little opening to a pen outside. That's all a farmer has to provide for something to be labeled free range and he can charge a lot more. There are other reasons too. Some vegans just don't like the idea of eating something that was part of someone else's body and some hate the taste of it. There are also a lot of health reasons to become a vegan.I'm a vegan because I think milk and eggs are gross (cow juice and chicken placentas? No thanks!) and because I'm not happy with the conditions of 99.999% of farms....Show more
Marcelle Vanlith: Watch this video. It explains everythinghttp://www.chooseveg.com/animal-cruelty.aspDairy cows and egg-laying hens are horribly mistreated, as shown in the video.
Connie Dickirson: Most sushi chefs are very happy to make fabulous vegetarian dishes even if they are not on the menu. They always have cucumber, avocado, asparagus, soy beans, ginger, tamago, sweet potato, and carrots. Many places have peppers,! zucchini, tofu, green beans, and if youre really lucky mango or lychee! . You can also eat Inari (bean curd pouches) and noodles. And to confirm again, sushi does not mean raw fish but refers to the way the rice is prepared (cold with sweet vinegar)...Show more
Justin Casten: Because animals aren't needed to live a human life.
Cierra Gadbaw: I always get cucumber and avocado on mine. They're pretty bland but still delicious for me (:http://diet.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Vegetarian_SushiThere's a website that gives you more options like.. * Cucumber, cream cheese and avocado: This vegetarian sushi has the perfect combination of smooth and crunchy textures. Keep in mind that it is higher fat than some of the other vegetarian options because the cream cheese and avocado are both fat-laden. * Tofu and Green Onions: This protein-packed sushi is low fat and delicious. You can try using fresh or dried tofu for variations on this classic. * Mushrooms: While many types of mushrooms are popular in vegetarian sushi, the small size and ! shape of the Shitake makes it ideal for this preparation. * Roasted eggplant and zucchini: For a hearty vegetarian sushi, try roasted or grilled eggplant and zucchini. The bold flavors are satisfying, but the resulting sushi is very low fat and healthy. * Carrots, daikon radish and cucumber: If what you want in your sushi is big crunch, this may be the choice for you. All three of these vegetables are prepared in thin slivers and wrapped into the center of a sushi roll, that is then sliced. The daikon has a spicy bite to it that is perfectly complemented by the sweet carrot and refreshing cucumber. Often, the daikon sprouts are used, as well. * Tempura sushi: Sometimes sushi is battered and deep fried, tempura style. Vegetarian tempura works quite well with carrots, eggplant, zucchini and sweet potato. * Egg sushi: Japanese scrambled eggs, called Oboro, are often used in vegetarian sushi. For those vegetarians who eat eggs, it is not only delicious, but a goo! d source of protein....Show more
Jerrod Guilfoil: Step 1: Forget ! about protein. The GPM (Great Protein Myth) should have been laid to rest many many years ago. Vegetarians and vegans get enough protein in their diets already, simply by eating food - it's an indisputable fact. I won't go too much further into this here, because I've already covered it so many times before, as have many other regulars in this forum. Just browse through the V&V forum for questions about 'protein substitutes' or 'protein for vegetarians' and take the time to read the answers. There will be great long lists of foods which are good to very good sources of protein, but without the guilt factor.Step 2: Don't buy, prepare, cook or eat anything which contains dairy products, eggs, animal fats, other slaughter byproducts or honey. It's not really that difficult. Read food labels, or better yet, cut down on processed foods and start doing most of your own food preparation/cooking. It might require buying a few good vegan cookbooks - and there are plenty around to ch! oose from. There are also a lot of vegan recipes online.Step 3: Stop buying and/or using cosmetics (make-up, perfumes, etc.) and toiletries (soaps, shampoos, etc.) which contain animal-derived ingredients (lanolin, fish-scales, gelatine, honey, tallow, etc.) or which have been tested on animals. There ARE alternatives available. Some companies are somewhat more ethical than others.Step 4: Stop buying and/or wearing clothing and accessories which are animal-derived (leather, fur, suede, feathers, silk, felt, sheep-skin, wool, etc.). If you still have items like that in your wardrobe, you can choose to either get rid of them (which might be seen as a bit wasteful) or continue wearing them until they're worn out (but be prepared to be challenged for wearing them while claiming to be a vegan).Step 5: You'd get more support from your parents if you could (A) show them that you have done plenty of research (hint: start doing that research today) into nutrition and diet, and there! fore know what you need to eat and drink in order to get all the macro-! nutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrate) and micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, fibre, co-enzymes, etc.) that your body requires. This will demonstrate responsibility, planning, determination and other desirable attributes which should impress the parents of a teenager; (B) start preparing your own food much more often. Find one vegan dish (or two) that you can successfully cook, AND which tastes great, and let them try it too. Hopefully they will be suitably impressed; (C) refrain from discussing the treatment/mistreatment of animals, as it WILL be seen as preaching (whether it is or not); and (D) be a healthy vegan, as it's much easier to 'convert' people to your way of thinking by being a good example yourself.Good luck!...Show more
Arnette Dominici: Make it your new years resolution.
Hollis Demasters: It depends. But I agree with others that Greek yogurt is much better. The brand I use is called Oikos.Kefir is also good, almost like ! liquid ice cream, only much more nutritious. Of course, plain kefir is also available.
Branden Roddick: Here's what you need to eat. Please make a note of the pulses and vegetables which I've mentioned. Apart from those mentioned, it would be beneficial to purchase fruits and vegetables which are native to your region so that you can formulate your own recipes in the future. You need to make sure you eat pulses at least three times a week and fruits and vegetables everyday. Have a fruit for breakfast(apart from something else of course) and vegetables/pulses for lunch and dinner. Make sure you include ALL varities of fruits, vegetables, pulses, grains, nuts, seeds and dry fruits in your grocery list. Don't eat mock meat and soybean as mock meat contains sodium and soybean is bad for health. Mock meat is also soy based so too much soy can be bad for health. Actually even a little soy is bad for health. What's wrong with soy?Soy beans are naturally toxic to humans,! but they're harmless when they go through a fermentation process, whic! h is how we get tofu. But soy is being used in more and more things these days. Just look through your cabinet. You'll be surprised. Anyway, most companies aren't putting their soy beans through this process because it takes too much time, and time = money. Instead, they put it through a chemical process, but this rarely gets rid of the soy's toxicity completely. Symptoms of a high soy diet are thyroid problems, breast cancer, and other complications. People get these symptoms because the soy they eat isn't fermented.Studies:http://www.alsearsmd.com/this-modern-health-food-m...http://www.nmia.com/~galenvtp/WAPSoyC3.pdf Mock meat can never be part of a staple diet(food what you eat everyday) as it is highly processed. You CAN have it ONCE IN A WAY. Its a luxury and not a need. Now looking at a staple diet, You'll need to consume naturally occurring FRUITS,VEGETABLES(cauliflower, carrot, potato, beetroot, broccoli, okra, eggplant, radish, turnip, cabbage, bitter gou! rd, spinach, capsicum(aka bell peppers)),PULSES(chickpeas, kidney beans, black eyed peas, green gram, black gram, lentils, lablab bean, moth bean, horse gram, cow pea, double beans),NUTS(cashew nuts, peanuts, walnuts, pistachios, raisins) and GRAINS.Also, do have figs once in a while as it is good for blood purification. Make something like rice and bread your staple diet. You can have rice with vegetables or lentils/legumes for lunch and bread(I have Indian bread usually) with pulses for dinner. You will get all vitamins and minerals from fruits, vegetables, pulses, legumes and nuts provided you consume them in variety so don't fall for the myth that says vegans/vegetarians need to take multivitamin supplements. Vegans/vegetarians don't need to take supplements as they get all their nutrients from the above mentioned sources. Supplements are supposed to be taken by people with deficiencies so do not take them UNLESS they have been prescribed to you by a doctor. Roxane Leathers: i understand vegitarian, you dont want to kill the animals, but why vegan? it doesnt kill the animals?
Amina Motzer: The California Roll is a great vegetarian option, but I always ask what the server/chef recommends as they know best and want you to enjoy the food.
Nadia Crauswell: im a total sushi freak. my favorites are heartattack and volacano *drool* i dont really know much of the names but most likely they will have ingredients such as the white cream, bell peppers not with seeds, avocado yum, shreded carrots, pickled radish, tampura, cucumberss yumm yum. Okay igtg get me some now lol. Really, it all ! depends on the store and location whether they do vegetarian roles or not. Most likely they do but not that much to decide on. My aunt from NC has a sushi place and they have a couple vegetarian roles. You can make your own at home and put whatever you're in the mood for. Last time we made ALOT. We even bought the cream and tuna, eggs, tempura and fried it up. If you love sushi, whether your a vegetarian or not, try making it at home. Its really fun and fast....Show more
Hal Rouse: read labels. The sugar free Yoplait has high fructose corn syrup as the 3rd ingredient. crazy, huh? Many yogurts also have gelatin, corn starch and other crap in them. The healthiest yogurt is one that has milk and flavoring and thats about it.There is no need for anything else.
Maurice Breuning: Yoplait is a yogurt-like sugary dessert. AND it is not vegetarian because it has animal gelatin. Try Chobani! It has tons of protein :)
Ezekiel Kadner: Sushi is raw fish. That means th! at there are not and there cannot be vegetarian sushi varieties. However! when you you go to a sushi bar you get all sorts of things. Some of these are vegetarian and I find them rather yummie. But they are not sushi, they don't taste like sushi and they don't have the same texture as sushi.Of course in a Japanese restaurant there are many vegetarian meals - tempura, teriaki, miso etc. They are all good but they aren't sushi. So sorry. You have to make a choice. Until they come up with some ghastly factory produced artificial gunk you can either be vegetarian or you can eat sushi.....Show more
Hollis Demasters: WHen does the new year stop being new?Around january 7th. Stop the new years resolution idea now. Start now. Not tomorrow, I hate resulutions, they put so much pressure on.If you're eating fries and ketchup, it's vegan. Oreos, vegan. In the morning , oatmeal and almonds and maple syrup- vegan. TOmato soup and garlic toast - vegan. Mashed potatoes and sweetcorn- vegan. Most people saying the things you do aren't fully aware that so ma! ny foods already are vegan. It's up to you if you want to ruin them with cow cheese and cow fat, but I know they're better without. Use earth balance, or lovely creamy sunflower spread or olive oil and soya cheese or almond cheese. It's so easy to do.THe only time people run into trouble, and this will make you look at the food you're eating in the first place, is when they eat so much processed food like canned soups, frozen pizza, frozen meals, sauce mixes, boxed rice mixes and all those other junk foods called "food" which aren't really food so much as a slow march towards death out of laziness by people who don't know how to cook. And I'm guessing a LOT of people eat mainly processed foods from a can, or from a huge bag of frozen bits, or a box which has sat in the cupboard for months and you add water, because everyone comes up with this question. And it's easy as falling off a log to eat NORMAL food. Which is, food from the green grocery section. Make your own oatmeal,! don't buy that junky ready made shite with sugar and HFCS in it. Make ! your own soup don't buy that Campbells shite with flour , HFCS, MSG and cheese powder in it. Make your own pizza not that frozen shat with sugar and milk solids in it.Doesn't mean every meal you have to cook from scratch, just cook ahead a lot if you can, or buy ahead of time. Lots of vegan friendly foods exist that are convenient too- frozen peas, some canned soups have no animal stuff in them, a lot of cereals DON'T have milk powder and so on. But basically you have to look at your whole diet, and how much of it comes form a packet or box with about 30 unpronounceable ingredients on the side. Because the people that eat this way, are the people who ask your question. You mention "because it seems like everything contains dairy milk or eggs". No, NOTHING that isn't milk or eggs contains milk or eggs. Sure a friend can make a pancake or give you a muffin, but the stuff you make yourself doesn't have this stuff.Buy soy milk, almond or rice milk to make those things, and use t! ofu or applesauce or avocado ( the list is very long) instead of eggs. How to tell your parents? Tell them it's a little weak being vegetarian if animal concern is your reason and that plant oils and plant proteins are much cheaper and healthier and you don't want to use ANY part of the animal in any case. Tell them how cheap and healthy plant proteins are. Keep saying that. And lastly, what is WITH the protein supplement thing?Did you know there is more protein in Spirulina ( a common seaweed, found often in smoothies, soups etc) and soybeans, than most meat? There's actually MORE protein in these foods, which are plants. Why does nobody get that brainwashed into them oh I forgot the USDA....Show more
William Vickerman: Don't go into it quickly like setting a deadline, you go into it when you've read up on it properly and worked out that you will get everything you need.If that diet isn't planned properly you can get problems. If it is planned properly it's perfectly! fine though.
Ricardo Rozelle: There's the classic avocado roll, ! which you can get pretty much everywhere, as well as a cucumber roll, a carrot roll, or a combination of any of them. There's also oshinko, which is pickled daikon radish. They can usually make a roll with any of the vegetables that they have. Kappa maki is a cucumber rollAvokyu is avocado rollNatto is fermented soy beansMany places will also have shiitake mushrooms, and vegetable tempura rolls. Miso soup is always vegetarian, and so is agedashi tofu. You can always ask if they have vegetarian potstickers.I've also had mango in a roll before. Edit: Careful with California Rolls; they usually have crab in them....Show more
Dorine Nurre: At every sushi restaurant I've been to, they have an AAC roll (Asparagus, cucumber, avocado) which is quite delicious. If there is no vegetarian options, ask the sushi chef to make one! More than likely they'll have fresh veggies on hand. Also be sure to double check to make sure it is vegetarian before you order it.
Marna L! iddie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYpafipJyDE
Terrell Voltz: I don't think there are any really. I mean you can put rice and veggies in a nori wrapping, but the word 'sushi' means raw fish. Not raw veggies.Maybe think Vietnamese rice wraps?
Danica Timperman: In general, people go vegetarian or vegan due to health and/or ethical reasons. Some vegetarians still eat fish, eggs, dairy products etc. Most vegetarians are more concerned about the food aspect and focus less on cruelty-free clothing, accessories & products. So many (not all) vegetarians still wear leather, furs, etc. Some vegetarians will still eat animal products if the company handles the animals humanely.Vegans don't consume any animal products (even honey), use cruelty-free products (cosmetics, soaps, etc.) and don't wear leather or furs etc. I believe Alicia Silverstone is vegan. Stella McCartney also makes a stylish vegan line of clothing for women. Vegans tend to support animal rights....Show m! ore
Samatha Nicar: The vegetarian sushi I have had usually contai! ns rice, a vegetable like carrots, cucumber, or avocado, sesame seeds, and seaweed. I think that with a touch of soy sauce it is delicious. I usually get it at Publix for cheap, and it's labeled as 'vegetable only.' Hope this helps you out : )
