Question on stopping gambling ?

Doreatha Kjellsen: I know from personal experience what you are going through. I too am a member of a support group. I have not placed a bet of any kind in 2 1/2 years. What you are feeling is normal for a compulsive gambler who is trying to quit. I hope the support group is Gamblers Anonymous. The best thing you can do is GET A SPONSOR. talk to other members of the group and find a person who has been in recovery for a long period of time. A true sponsor does more than just listens. They will help you learn how to deal with all of the frustrations you are feeling now. You will find that if you work the steps, (your sponsor will teach you how and will walk you through each one) you will find a peace you have not had in your life in a long time. You will find things in life that you used to enjoy before the gambling, are even more pleasurable now. When in the middle of the addiction or first starting recovery, you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. But believe me! , from personal experience, ( I ended up in jail, lost my home, my self-esteem, my job, trust from other people, was suicidal. i had never been in trouble before my gambling ) you will turn things around, and you will be happier than you have been in a long time. Again, GETTING A SPONSOR, is the most important step at this time. I will have you in my prayers. ...Show more

Lupe Sancen: i used to gamble to relax, only spent what i had in my kitty, i stopped when my ex gambled away 2 homes, my land, a business and cash to the total value of nearly half a million dollars. i kicked him out and started again. now i gamble without spending money on an online site where it doesn't cost a cent and yet i still enjoy it.STOP before you lose your sanity

Lashawn Zabarkes: Your group will have better answers than a Yahoo board, but good luck.
