What can I do (or make) with old bed rails?

Lissette Semon: A bed rail keeps a person from falling out of bed. It is very important to help a person from getting badly hurt.

Mohamed Szollosi: I have a couple old bed rail sets too. Since I weld I have used them to make other projects. In a moment I will include a link to a picture of something I've made before. A gasoline powered car alternator that charges a car battery. The project is not complete though. I still intend to get an inverter and connect it to the battery so I can power lights OR a refrigerator OR a heater, depending on the needs.I've also used old bed frames as rebar in concrete. Just needed to make sure the rails were fully coated with paint to prevent them from rusting out. Eventually they will, but that's a fact of life. Everything eventually deteriorates.Other things you can do with old bed frames? Make a gate. Make a wind mill (decorative for the garden). Make anything you can think of. Or you can take the metal to your nearest! scrap metal dealer and sell them for, I think it's around 7 cents per pound. So don't expect to get rich.Hope this helps.'')...Show more

Cuc Gire: if you have a garage put them in there until the trash man comes or put them in the garage until you figure out what to do with them

Jodie Capella: If you do any kind of repairs or fabrication around the house & garage: do not throw them out.Being 'mild steel', they are fairly easy to cut (metal saw blades), they weld excellent (when properly prepared), they have acceptable strength for general building & fabrication, drilling holes in them is very easy, and the list goes on really. And those 'hinges' located at the corners are quite sturdy, and suitable for many applications and builds. All these traits make them suitable for a huge variety of purposes when framing or building a structure, and can substitute for wood. I actually go out of my way to grab a set of these when someone throws them out.A handyman's ideal ! 'stock' to have around. If you don't fit that category, give th! em to someone who can use them, and maybe they someday can do a small job as a favor payback....Show more
